Reclaiming My Pride art show at One World Center NYC – honorable mention winner in 2018
Dimensions of the art – 15 x 20 inches
Medium – Watercolor, acrylic, gouche, and pen.
Early in 2018, Metrosource in NYC set up a contest to celebrate positivity in the LGBTQ community through creativity by interpreting what “reclaiming my pride” meant to them. The art contest drew over 100 submissions from all over and I won honorable mention.
The statement I wrote was the following:
“I sweat with my community. I often box at my gym in my community with kids, retirees, trans and non-binary indivuduals, muslim women wearing their workout hijabs, the gyms bassit hounds and people from all walks of life. My boxing community represents a sense of pride and togetherness that I wish I saw in all corners of life. I bring this feeling with me and try to change one person at a time.”

I am most proud that my statement was submitted to the city and helped the gym to become a designated safe place. My simple picture and statement helped in some small way.
